A Day on the Slopes

Every year we take the boys skiing one day (hopefully when they are older we will go more often). We usually take the boys the week after Christmas - NEVER again! This year it just didn't work to go right after Christmas so we took the boys last week (on a Tuesday). It was so nice to be there when hardly anyone else was there. We just had Dallin and Matthew miss a day of school (Gavin didn't have pre-school that day) and it was worth it! It was also a great day to go because Brighton had gotten about 90" of snow in the week before (and it snowed a little the whole day). Dallin wanted to be in ski school so we put him in that in the morning - he was the only kid so it turned into a private lesson! He could already get down the hill by himself but the lesson gave him so much confidence - it was definitely worth it. Matthew was the silly one. He started out skiing but kept saying he wanted to snowboard. So finally, we let him switch. Of course when he switched, I switched as well (I was skiing because everyone else was & I thought it would be easier. But I am NOT a skier). Matthew did GREAT but he wanted to go fast without crashing and since he wouldn't listen to me and learn the basics, he wasn't able to do that. So, he switched back (but I stuck with snowboarding - I was much happier) and did GREAT! Gavin had so much fun but had to be right by Ed - luckily, Ed brought a rock climbing harness that he put on Gavin so he could hold Gavin up by the harness. By the end of the day, Gavin would go down (at least part way) by himself. He would get going so fast Ed would have to try to go safe him while I would yell "PIZZA not french fries!!!" and Ed would be telling him to fall. All in all, it was a great day - no lines, great snow, and hanging with 4 of my 6 boys!

What a great outing, Michelle! I've never been on a snowboard, and I'm not a great skier, and...I'm kind of wimpy in the cold. So glad you went with everyone on the adventure!

So fun! I switched around board and skis this year too. I'm so much more comfortable riding the board, but I get SO tired of the up and down off the ground. I need some clickers! I'm not a good skiier either!!!
