Last week was our Spring Break. I tried to make it a fun week - even with rain (not as much as was predicted) and Cameron's visit to the burn center and Ed being out of town for work and just the normal craziness that comes with having kids.
The first day was a beautiful day so we got up and went up to the Hogle Zoo (I think we were about the 15th car there - we would have been there sooner but Kesley threw-up in the car so we had to stop and clean that up, so she didn't have as much fun as the others). I love that zoo. It isn't huge (and is actually under construction - I can't wait to see what they are doing) but the animals are close to each other (not lots of walking) and easy for the kids to see. The day we went was perfect because it was still a little chilly (notice all the jackets in the pictures) so all the animals were out and about - I never knew there were 4 tigers at the zoo and that there was a bridge they could walk on that we could and did walk under.
My favorite part (besides being with all my kiddos and my mom) was the gorilla. For some reason that is what Gavin really wanted to see. So that was one of the first things we did. When we got there (the gorillas were inside because it was cold) no one else was around. As soon as the big gorilla saw us he walked right over to the big window, put his nose right by the glass and stared at my boys. They LOVED it! It was so cool! The boys had a "staring contest" with the gorilla - for about 5 minutes! Then he posed for pictures with us (not really but it sure felt that way). We ended our little trip with ice cream - even when it is chilly out, soft-serve ice cream is yummy!
