Baseball season is in full SWING for Matthew (too bad soccer isn't over yet). He has had a couple of games and done AWESOME! I just wish it was WARMER at his games (let's just say I wear 3-4 layers UNDER a big winter jacket and a heavy blanket - and I am still cold).
One game he had a DOUBLE and TWO SINGLES and scored THREE times!
He is a FAST little runner (his coach says he is super fast and fun to watch) and GREAT at stealing bases!
They HAVE to slide into home if there is even a chance of a play at home - so he always slides. He needs to work on his SLIDES!
This slide was a little better - at least he wasn't laying flat on his back.
He normally plays in the outfield. I asked him why and he told me "because I don't have to do anything". I didn't like that answer and neither did his dad. So he asked his coach if he could play infield - and last night he got to play THIRD base. Too bad the team they played wasn't very good so he didn't have to do much - but it was more fun to watch with him there.
Stealing THIRD base!
Matthew's coach told me that didn't know that Matthew wanted to play the infield - so I explained. He told me that he wanted to work with him and get him on the mound. I thought he meant down the road, after working with him.
NOPE!
He meant the next inning!
What? Matthew has NEVER pitched before! Not even in practice!
He went right out onto the mound and started pitching - he wasn't nervous at all. I can't say the same for me - I was so NERVOUS!
He did AWESOME! He did WALK three batters . . .
But he also STRUCK OUT three batters and didn't allow any runs!
Way to go Matthew! I must say, baseball is way more fun (and stressful) when he plays in field and pitcher!
