CONCUSSION for Matthew

Last night, we were all in the family room just watching videos of the kids, etc. with Ed's parents (they stopped by to say hi).  Matthew was sitting on the floor when Kesley ran up to him and jumped on him (without any warning).  She knocked him backwards REALLY HARD, knocking his head REALLY HARD onto the corner of our very heavy, not moveable end table.  After putting ice on his head - which quickly got a HUGE bump on it - and watching him be pretty much out of it, we decided to be safe and take him to the ER.
Dallin was so worried.  He held the ice on Matthew's head all on his own and BEGGED to come with me to the ER to help and make sure Matthew was okay.
The ER was super crowded (being Memorial Day night and all) but they took us right back past everyone - Matthew couldn't really walk on his own and was dizzy when he sat up or stood up.  It was so crowded we had to wait, but not long, for a bed in the overflow to open up.

The doctor came in and saw Matthew and was concerned about the big KNOT on his head and the location of it and how Matthew was acting.  So he wanted Matthew to have a CAT scan.
Luckily, Matthew was pretty out of it so he really didn't know what was going on.  I had never seen a CAT scan machine before.  Dallin and I had to leave the room before they started but we got to see him get loaded into the machine.
Before we left the room, we put his favorite blanket on him.
After the CAT scan, we had to wait awhile (again, not a horribly long time for the ER on a holiday).  His pupils were going crazy, he was twitching, crying for no reason (no reason that he could tell other than his head hurt), he was nauseous and just not doing well.  He was scared and just feeling horrible.

Luckily, the CAT scan came back good - no fractures or bleeding.  Just a CONCUSSION.  So we got to go home.  But we had him sleep on a mattress on the floor in our room just in case.  He is staying home from school today and sleeping as much as he wants (so nice that you don't have to wake concussion patients up anymore every couple of hours).  And that is what he is doing.  It is now 9:45 am and he is still asleep.  So glad that it isn't anything worse than a concussion!
