Halloween (mini) Carnival for Pack Meeting

What a SUPER FUN Pack Meeting we had tonight! We are trying to make Pack Meetings more fun for the boys and I think we succeeded tonight!  Since it is October, we decided to have a Halloween Carnival (a mini one that is).  The boys all came dressed as Halloween Scouts (really dressed up with their uniform on), we did the normal Pack Meeting stuff (flag, awards, etc.) and the the kids all got to play some silly carnival type games.  Here is a list of the games we had:

  1. Bobbing for Apples
  2. Guess How Many
  3. Witch Hat Toss
  4. Poppin' Pumpkins
  5. Boo Bowling
  6. Musical Pumpkin
  7. Guess that Body Part
  8. Cupcake Walk (we ended with that one so everyone could play together)
At all the games, they got either a piece of candy or a plastic spider.  At the cupcake walk, EVERYONE got a cupcake - and that was the treat.

I tried to take pictures but it was hard to get pictures of some of it - especially a good one of the whole thing (too spread out).  Hopefully these will give you an idea.

BOO BOWLING - 10 cheap paper towel rolls from the $1 store, with cheap electrical tape wrapped around each roll and 2 big googly eyes hot glued on.  The kids rolled or threw cheap $1 pumpkins at the paper towel rolls to knock them over.  The pumpkins weren't heavy enough so we ended up stacking the paper towel rolls and then they were able to knock the rolls over.
POPPIN' PUMPKINS was fun!  I bought a peg board at Home Depot (and they cut it in half for me) and put 5" balloons through the holes.  The kids each got 3 darts to throw at the balloons.  They got a piece of candy for each balloon they popped.  Originally I was going to put the candy in each balloon but that was too hard.

WITCH HAT TOSS - one of the ladies I work with in Cubs (Melissa) made this game (which now we found out you can buy at Target for $10 - totally worth it).  The kids got to toss glow stick bracelets at the hats.  They got a piece of candy for each bracelet they got on a hat.  If we could have found more glow stick bracelets for cheap, we would have given those as the prizes.

BOBBING for APPLES - the kids loved this.  Just make sure the bucket you put the water and apples in isn't too deep.  The first tub we had was TOO big - luckily we realized that before the carnival started.
We wanted to make sure all the kids entered through one door - since the carnival was after the normal Pack Meeting stuff.  So we used CAUTION tape to block off the other doors.
We made all the doors in the gym into simple MONSTERS!  LOVE this idea!  On a normal door you would have made a mouth out of duck tape but no need with these doors.  The eyes are BIG white paper plates with small black paper plates taped to them.  The hair is just crepe paper.  LOVE these!

GUESS HOW MANY - I filled jars with the following:

  • GHOST POOP (marshmallows)
  • WITCHES WARTS (chocolate chips)
  • JACK O' LANTERN TEETH (candy corn)
  • MONSTER SCABS (cinnamon toast crunch cereal)
The kids would write their name and their guess on a color coded piece of paper and the closest got a small box of candy.  Super easy.

GUESS that BODY PART - the Bear leaders did this game.  They had different foods, along with a story (not exactly sure how it worked, I was busy walking around, taking pictures, etc).  They kids had to smell the food and figure out what BODY PART it was.  The boys really liked it because it was GROSS.

CUPCAKE WALK - final game we played, kind of the end to the evening.  I had 20 pumpkins printed with numbers of them that we taped down in a circle.  We played Halloween music and when we stopped it, we picked a card with the numbers 1-20 on them and whomever was on that number got a CUPCAKE.  Then a new kid would take their spot (so that all the kids could get a cupcake - adults could just take one).  The cupcakes were really simple ones - just frosted to look like candy corn.  I think they were pretty cute.

I think it was a fun night for the boys and their families!  I think we might need to make this a tradition!

What a fun idea! Im in Activity Days and with over 15 girls, I'm always looking for fun activities we can rotate to get through. Where did you get the super cute signs that were at each game/activity? They are darling! I think I'm going to pull something together like this for our next activity!
