Our annual Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet was last night. With the Winter Olympics going on right now we used that as our inspiration for the night. Our theme was:
GO FOR THE GOLD
Which works GREAT since it is the blue & GOLD banquet.
The Olympic rings are HULA HOOPS that I bought on Amazon (Amazon Prime). They had all the right colors except for black. We had to spray paint purple ones black. I connected them with clear packing tape and used fishing wire to hang them up. LOVE how they turned out!
I use white table cloths for the serving tables (nice ones with plastic ones on top - I hate plastic white ones alone - they are too see through). The stripes are crepe paper.
Since this was the "Olympics", we had a START and FINISH lines (beginning and end of the food tables). And of course, GOLD MEDALS made out of gold paper plates and blue ribbon.
I can't use plain white paper plates at a party - they have to coordinate! I know it is silly, but I love how the plates look - just like the Olympic rings.
We had 12 round tables set up (not really room for more). We used the 5 Olympic colors for everything - table cloths, paper products, centerpieces, everything.
At one end of the room we did set up 3 long tables to make sure we had enough places for everyone - we were planning on about 125 people - which is about what we had.
Each table had a bag with 5 balloons (one of each of the Olympic colors) and tissue paper in the center (the balloons are on balloon sticks that I bought at Hobby Lobby). I taped the balloons together (with one higher than the rest) and put them in mason jars with plastic grocery bags stuffed around the sticks to make them stick up straight.
In the center of each table there were also 2 TORCHES. I made the torches out of 3 pieces of tissue paper (one orange, one red, and one yellow) and a gold plastic cup. We did put a piece of tape on the bottom of the cups to help them stay standing up. There were also 2 sets of OLYMPIC RINGS - made out of pipe cleaners.
The final part of the centerpieces were the water bottles. It is always hard for parents to help get their kids food and drinks so this year I made cute, simple labels and put them on small Costco water bottles and had 8 on each round table. I also attached a flag (all from different countries) to each water bottle. That was my favorite part! I got the flags on Amazon (Prime) and another set (the same set) at my favorite party store, Zurchers. 72 came in a pack for something like $3 or $4. Awesome!

Trying to take pictures of the whole room - didn't really work but you get the idea.
We had the ATHLETEs (the Cub Scouts) register when the arrived and got their BIBS.
Here is one of the bibs. We even had bibs for the OFFICIALS (all the leaders). We punched holes and safety pinned the bibs to the boys' backs.
We had a couple of GAMES for the boys to play throughout the night. We had HOCKEY - all the kids (not just cubs) could make little hockey sticks out of popsicle sticks and play hockey in 9x13 pans with pom poms for pucks and little hockey goals.

Another GAME was SNOWBOARDING. The kids could make a snowboarder out of pipe cleaners, colored tape, and tongue depressors. My boys LOVED this one!

We also had OLYMPIC TRIVIA for the boys - super fun!
The last GAME was SNOWBALL THROW. We had OLYMPIC RINGS set up and SNOWBALLS for the boys to throw through the rings. It turned into a huge snowball fight - but that is why it was in the hallway.
Here are the OFFICIAL bibs.
Here is everyone mingling and playing games before we ate dinner.
You can't have an Olympics without GOLD MEDALS - so each boy got a GOLD MEDAL.
Now, probably my favorite part of any party - DESSERT!
I made TORCH cupcakes (baked cupcakes in ice cream cones). Dallin made the wood holders (that I covered with plastic table cloths) for the cupcakes.
Then I made sugar cookies and frosted them in the OLYMPIC colors and arranged them like the OLYMPIC RINGS.
LOVE the cupcakes - but man are they hard to transport!
I think it turned out to be a fun night! Thanks to everyone that helped with the party and thanks to those that helped clean up afterwards.

I LOVE this theme for Blue & Gold! I'm totally using so many of your fabulous ideas. I only hope I can do it justice. I'm wondering about how you made the bibs. Is there a simple template or something? I also want information about the "gold medals" you had for everyone. Again, is there a printable for those? I'd love more info.
